Default Question about gears

I'm getting ready to buy new gears for my truck. I'm on 35's and I've heard people say go with 4.10's if I like my gas mileage, or 4.56's if I want power. I currently have 3.55's so my question is if I go from my 3.55's to 4.10's, will my gas mileage get better or worse?

I just got a quote today for 4k to go to 4.56's, is that too high? I thought that changing gears (both front and rear diff) was going to be about 2k.

Default Question about gears

It's a less common gear size but look at 4.30:1 gears. It'll be the best of both worlds. I'll post a link to some here in a second.

Default Question about gears

Ford 9.75 Rear End

Ford 8.8 Rear End

Not sure which rear end you have and I'm pretty sure those are the right spline count. But I'd say 4k for that is a bit on the tall side. It can be done cheaper.

I have a 10 bolt rear diff, so that is a 8.8 rear end right?

4k to do them both? Is the truck even worth that much? If you don't off road I think I'd just live with the 3.55's.

I would live with it, but I am about to replace my tranny so I want to put as little stress as possible on it. My options are to re-gear or take the lift off and go back to 33" tires. re-gearing is the cheapest upfront option, but taking the lift off is the cheapest option in the long run.

I'm 2wd and I can have mine done for less than 750 bucks. I'd get quotes from a different place.

Yeah the front diff is where all the money comes from lol, I guess they are a pain to do.

The front is more labor intensive. Red-Ford what was your factory tire size?
ScrewThat 4.30's aren't a option for 4wd because no makes a reverse cut for the front diff.
