Engine Fan
This may be a dumb question but is my engine fan suppose to run non stop? I'm in Canada -15C and it runs on start non stop. Could something be wrong with my thermostat? I drove it through a blizzard and through some big snow drifts. I had lots of snow in the engine compartment when I got home. I noticed a difference. The fan runs like its +30C and the engine needs to cool. Any Ideas? 4.6L
The belt driven cooling fan runs at all times. When the outside air temp (OAT) exceeds about 105 F, the fan clutch will lock in and thus makes a loud roaring noise. If your truck sounds normal, I doubt there is a problem. I am not sure what caused the snow inside the engine compartment as snow is seldom encountered here in Las Vegas. Keep us posted as to what you find out.

Any morning, or even in the later day, if the truck sits, the fan clutch will come on (depending on the temperature outside) and stay on for a while. They are temp controlled, and the spring on the front (when it gets to operating temp) allows its to freewheel, (quits making the loud roar). If yours doesn't quit after a while driving, you may have a bad fan clutch. Some are centrifically ran, (aftermarket design) or temp controlled (thermostatic spring-factory design). Either can be used if you go with buying another. You may have to borrow the tool for removing it, if you should decide to replace it. It can be a bear to get off.
