V.I.N. ??? I know in pre 1997 fords the engine block numbers are behind the starter, the heads are on the bottom. As far as chassis goes that is part of the V.I.N.

Its a 1997. I have the vin, I was wondering if its the same for chassis number (police asks for chassis serial number here), someone told me the engine serial number is the last 8 digits of the VIN, is this true?

Go to LMCtrucks.com they have a VIN decoder in the front of their online magazines.

Hi

I've checked that decoder and others, none of they say the engine serial number.

Is it the same sequence number for/in the VIN?

The officer is giving you a bad time, as long as the vin # is the same on your regastration and the truck its id'd. The vehicle certification label on the drivers side door pillar also has all the info to back up the vin #

No.
If your looking for the engine serial # theres a label on the valve cover and a copy of that info stamped into a machined pad on the external surface of the block. Theres also a id # on the trans, transfer case and differential.

Hi, this is what ford customer relationship center said:

Please be informed that the engine number, which is the last eight numbers of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), is stamped on the engine block, transmission, frame and transfer case (if equipped).
