Drats, Foiled again!

..well, maybe not really but it gave me pause.

My Head Gaskets arrived today for my 01 5.4 screw. Turns out the truck has an NVH block which stands to reason with what the previous owner told me.

What I didn't know was the trucks 5.4 blocks, were changed for some reason. (No research on my part yet to know why.)

The headgaskets say 99-01 but then when I search for 02+ it still gives the same part number. I am using Felpro MLS gaskets, something I've never done on a Modular before. I have always used FMS gaskets.

I haven't tore into it yet so no harm no foul. Anyone want to explain the gasket difference? I'm thinking it's a coolant port?

(Remember I knew to trucks but not 4.6 mustangs.)

As far as I know, all 5.4 2v engines had the same gaskets. Only difference were the early intakes & the later 8 thread heads. You'll be fine. I'm running fel-pro mls gaskets on mine with no issues.

Oh, ok. But the part # would have been modified from that point on, discontinuing the old #. And unless he got a 13+ year old set, he should be ok.... i think. Lol

If they did, I never heard about it. Plenty of intake gasket revisions tho.

Just the revision most likley. Same part number, dif revision. Revisions are at the end after the part number. Like AA AB AC etc.

Yep, as far as AutoHoe is concerned they both have the same part number even though the gasket package itself says 99-01.

It's redundant to type out both sets of Identical Part numbers but for the sake of others searching for info.

-'03

HS9790PT-15 for the set.

C9790PT-2 (Right)
C9792PT-2 (Left)

-'01

HS9790PT-15 (Set)

C9790PT-2 (Right)
C9792PT-2 (Left)

It's the same for Advance part numbers.

Only deal with the heads was the "burr problem" and that was in the late 90's. Gasket leaks pass side rear, but it wasn't because of the gasket itself, it was do to the robots ...tooling.

Every engine builder should know these guys, -

http://www.enginebuildermag.com/2002...l-sohc-engine/

I haven't searched, but Doug has a ton of info on these 10th generation engines. I happened by some 4six info tho, some pertains to the 5four as well. I'm positive there's a 5four article as well. You'll have to search articles for specific info, but they have it!
