Electric window stops
Had some trouble with the electric passenger window on my 98 Scab. Thanks to the search feature on this forum I found the info I needed and was able to (knock on wood) solve the problem (fingers crossed).
The passenger window on my truck would intermittently stop responding to the switch. I'd roll it down, and it would roll down fine, then I'd push the button to roll it up...and nothing. Then later it would roll up, but not down again. This happened on and off for a few weeks.
Then two days ago it rolled down and would not go back up at all so I started troubleshooting.
I didn't think it was a bad switch because it was the same whether I used the switch on the driver's side or the passenger's side. I also didn't think it was an alignment or track problem because when it did work, it worked fine...moving up and down quickly with no real noise. Also, I didn't think it was the relay because I could hear a relay click when I pushed the button. That basically left the motor or the wires connecting to the motor.
So...thanks to the good people of this forum I learned how easy it is to remove the door panel. So I took it off, removed the speaker, gently peeled back the vapor barrier then was shocked to see how little access to the motor/mechanism there was. You can't really see anything in there. And on top of that the motor is attached by rivets!
All the electrical connections looked fine and I could hear a relay click when I pushed the button. I couldn't see the actual connection to the motor but I felt around and everything seemed to be in place. So that left the motor as the problem.
Before doing anything drastic like drilling out the rivets and trying to replace the motor, I remembered that someone mentioned a similar problem and solved it by hitting the motor with a hammer.
So, I grabbed my hammer and briskly tapped each of the rivets several times, testing the window after each. After a few good whacks on the last rivet (the upper right in this case) the motor worked. And it has worked without error so far (again, fingers crossed).
I hope this fix lasts forever because I don't relish the idea of replacing the motor. Looks like it will be a PITA. I can't actually think of why this worked but sometimes stuff just need a good whack to work right. My old CRT TV is like that sometimes
Just wanted to post my experience and say THANKS! to all the fine folks on F150forum.com!!!

Well crap. My window stopped working again. I need to tear into again but right now its up and I'm content to just run the a/c. But crap...do I need to replace the motor to resolve this problem???
Are you sure its not any of the switches? I tell folks that any time you disconnect any connector, spray the contacts with contact cleaner (DeOxit-5 or thereabouts). That's all it was on mine.
so, I'm pretty sure its not the switches, but I'd be interested in troubleshooting them to verify they work properly. Looks like I need to get a manual for this truck and a wiring diagram. Crap...I don't have time for this!!!
I had the exact same problem literally a week ago. The drivers side switches both had faulty switches, and the passenger side window switch was just faulty wiring.. That's what the tech told me that worked on my car.

The thing that makes me think it is not the the switch is that I can hear a relay click when I push either the driver side or passenger side switch.
I guess the switches could still be bad but makes me wonder.
