Just wondering if anybody has any experiences to share with the duplicolor spray, I am trying to match a camper shell to my truck. Any and all comments, tips, etc very welcome. As you can see, there is not much painted surface at eye level. (Mostly on the top) This is my first go at this sort of thing and I want to do it as best as possible while keeping the budget fairly low. I'm also using it as an experience to learn a bit about painting. Here is a pic Duplicolor experiences ?-image-1481425532.jpg

Red is hard to match since it tends to fade more than other colors.
IMO paint the camper black (or maybe the same color as the bottom of the truck).

Okay, let's say I have a shop do it. Could they match it close to my paint as is? (Compensate for the fade?) it does not have to be dead on, it's definitely not a show truck, but I can't stand having that purple hanging off the back of my truck. It has to be at least red...

Yea. A shop can get it spot on as they have machines to scan your current paint.

I tried to spray paint my canopy red and it is hard due to the massive area. It is extremely hard to get an even coat, it ended up looking like crap. I just use a black spray primer and it turned out pretty good.

As far as having a shot do it, it depends on how faded your truck is. I had a shop paint my new fender after my tire came of and it is still noticeably darker. Even though they ordered the same paint (E4 code, vermilion red), it still turned out darker. If I wanted it to match the truck they said I would have to get a 60% over spray on the truck or just repaint the whole truck. You can't see it as well in pictures as you can in person, but you can still kinda see it. To a normal person just glancing at the truck they more than likely wouldn't notice but when you are admiring someones truck that is when you notice every little scratch lol.

Not if you go to a good shop. They use computerized color matching to get it perfect. You get what you pay for.

Its actually pretty easy to spot. Especially from a distance.
