Default Door Panel Lights

Hey Guys,

Newyby question. I have a Super Cab 2003 F150 XLT. My doors have lense covers (completly red lenses, no white at all) on them but do not light up. Are they suppose to light up, both the back and front doors? Please let me know so that I can figure out what is wrong. If they are suppose to light up do you know what the bulb number is? I did not get a manual when I bought the truck, I have ordered one but not here yet. Thank you.

on my 97 they light up. you will have to hang around here to wait for someone with the 03 to chime in and check this out for all your bulb sizes

if none of them are lighting up i wouldnt think all your bulbs would be shot i would check fuses first but the bulbs are fairly cheap it wouldnt hurt to change them all anyway im sure if you want to go that route

If u have the completely red lenses u will not have lights behind them. They are reflectors only.

Even if there is a hole behind the red lense that looks like where a light socket should go?

I have a 2003 super crew with the red lenses. U have to remember that these trucks are mass produced. My truck has the red lens and behind that there is a hole but no wiring.

Default Chiming in...

I just got a '03 F150.
There are red lenses only on the door and no lamp socket inside the lens housing.
There is however an unused pigtail wiring harness containing two wires inside the door at the same area as the electric door lock. These are not the door lock circuit.
One wire is black, the other black with a red tracer.

A test of these wires finds they do not function as an interior light circuit.
A continuity test of these wires finds that neither is ground.
Does anyone know the function of this circuit?

I know there are a few fellows on here that have wired them up so that they light up, but I believe it is pretty intense. The 03 model has a place for lights, but no lights. Same deal with the pop-out cupholder, it is also designed to have a light in it. If you do some digging, I think I saw a write up of it about a year or so ago.

I had the lights for the doors on my 00. In 2002/3 they started to get rid of the light. some have the wiring in but no socket.
