Default Diesel Conversion

I've got a 2001 F-150 with a 5.4L V8 and I was wondering if I could put a diesel engine in it, preferably a Powerstroke.

I know there's some things I'll have to change on it too, but I'm not sure exactly what I need to change.

Thanks.

If all your wantin is the look of the F150 w/ a Powerstroke, then put the body on a SuperDuty frame.

I'd suggest just buying a Diesel as well, you'll end up saving in the long run.

Aim for a 2001-2003 w/ the 7.3 in it.

My 7.3's been super reliable to me.

The problem with using a powerstroke is it's size! I'm planning on swapping a cummins 4bt in my truck in the future. Company's like destroked.com and fordcummins.com have almost everything you can imagine to make the swap bolt in!

The diesel shop that built my trans has a shop truck a lot like mine with a 4bt in it and after taking it for a drive I was sold! It makes 300hp and 630lbft of torque with just a few upgrades.

Hope this info helps!

^^^ A 4bt in anything is well worth the time and money! I think I saw a website a while back - 4btswaps.com I think.

Thanks for all the help. I reckon the 4bt would be the best route. The only thing is that fordcummins.com doesn't have a kit for the 2001 models, I'll check out the other site though. Thanks again for all the help.

If you have the money, do it! A cummins would work great. People have put deisels in 1/2 tons before and it works good when it gets done. Also a Cummins in a F150 would get you around 30 mpg and a ton more power. But, its a big project to undertake. Everything will have to change. All mounting for engine, and for the different tranny, standalone ECU, tuning, standalone fuel management, fuel tank, pump, lines, cooling system upgrades, exhaust, custom made driveshaft lenght, etc. It will basically be a complete standalone deisel system just with a f150 body over it.

But, if they make kits for it, it would be more fun to do than a job to do like piecing it together.
