Default Did I get a good deal? What to know?

Hello,
New to the f150 world and was wondering how I made out on my new purchase. My friend tells me bad but kbb tells me it was a great deal.

97 f150, 4x4 180k auto 4.6l. CAI 2.5” exhaust with glass pack. frame has surface rust looks solid. 2 small rust spots on body. Missing tail gate and 4x4 doesn’t work due to wires being frayed on the motor to transfer case, should be easy fix. 1500 paid, which is 1k less than the low end of private party on kbb.

Seems good to me. You got the truck, so why start second guessing yourself? Fix'er up and enjoy your truck.

If you are able to fix the issues yourself, then not a bad deal.
I would not say great deal though. If the 4x4 worked and had the tailgate, that would be a great deal.
Hopefully noting else bad pops up though.

Tailgate is not too hard to come by for a decent price (don't Superduty tailgates from like '03 to '14 fit?)

Yeah, it's an ok deal for a 22 year old truck. There are probably more issues that need fixing that you have not found yet and this forum should be able to help with them. Watch for rotted out rubber, brittle and broken plastic bits, and general wear items. Replace all the fluids. Check the ball joints, tie rod ends and sway bar links. The tailgate from a superduty is the same - I have an f-250 tailgate on mine. Look at the rear frame for rot. If you take care of the truck it should last a long time more.

Theres not really any good deal on a 22yr old , marginally cared for vehicle.

If it runs, as is, and lasts at least a year.....you came out OK.
If it runs as is, and gets you around 3 yrs...you came out great.

To fix things will require $$ you will never get back by selling is the problem.
Any repair over $750......has to be compared vs. scrapping truck and walking away

If you want a beater to keep around....its a good start.

But honestly, the only thing which matters is are YOU happy with it? If so, its a win.

x2.

if it runs, and is currently inspected (not sure where you live). you are doing alright. If it will pass inspection then even better,

Default Thanks for replies

Just got it inspected today, have a pulley rattling around that I will probably need to get replaced. Don’t plan on putting many miles on it as it is our 3rd vehicle. So hopefully we can run it for a few years, just bought it to haul bigger items from auctions and what not.
