2002 150 5.4
My truck needs a tune up.....Just what everyone likes for coils and plugs ? Best place to buy? My truck has about 250,000 miles on it and has only had 1 tune up so it is time ? Last time I had a shop do it so just wondering how hard it is to change plugs and coils your self ? I have heard it is a little hard on a 5.4 but haven't really looked into it.
Thanks Jack

Careful pouring a liquid on top of the pistons, that can cause bad ju-ju.

Looking for a Henway.

Plugs is easy, Motorcraft.
Coil on plug (COP), Motorcraft is the best, but there are a few other options out there.
Most aftermarket made in China COP are junk. They use aluminum windings that work, but only for a short time.
I have heard of people buying 2 sets of the $40 sets to get 8 that even work for a short time.
The few aftermarket that I heard about working well were WeaponX (or something like that, not sure if made any more), Visteon (I think they are Motorcraft supplier), ARAParts (I have used them on both 2v and 3v motors) and Global Automotive (have not seen them for a while, not sure if still made).
If you are not having a problem with the coils, not need to change them, You should change the boots and springs in them though and clean the internal connections.
On the 5.4, you can expect an afternoon to do the plugs the first time. I found #7 to be a pain due to the fuel regulator right over the plug. First time I fought around it to do it. Second time, I just loosened the fuel rail to make access easier.
#4 plug requires every extension and swivel you have (seriously, I think I used two swivels, two or three 6" and two 3" extensions) to get to it, but it is doable.
