Jumper out the switch.
RLSebring,
If you are having doubts about the brake pressure switch or it's circuitry, just remove the short harness (recall piece) from the original OEM chassis harness and put a jumper between the two terminals, leaving the switch and the fuse out of the picture.
Run your tests with the jumper in..... and with the jumper out. You should see a change! No change? Something else is the prob.
You can drive the truck with the switch disconnected and the circuit jumpered out. I did until my new switch kit arrived. This is just a secondary "failsafe" device. Your brake light switch also kicks off the cruise....or it is supposed to!
Keep at it!

Just wanted to add something... Just came off a 2500 mile road trip. Traveling down the interstate for some reason I pressed the cruise control "ON" then "set" and the damn thing decided to work. I shouldn't have because it was short lived due to traffic. The remainder of the trip I was constantly trying to get the cruise to come on again.
A couple of times just a simple push of the button. Most of the times I tried the cruise light on the dash would light up or flash for a brief second but not engage. While on I could not Coast, resume or set as that would dis-engage the cruise.
Prior to this I was at a loss with what to try. Now I'm really lost as it doesn't make sense to me where to even begin to check for either a lose wire, bad connection, faulty button, etc...
I'm actually considering to just have an aftermarket cruise installed because it's really tiresome on these trips to keep the gas pushed...

Check the actual cable, sometimes they pop off. I drilled a hole and put a cotter pin through it, havnt had a problem sense!

What is it about you Canucks? In any case, I really appreciate the test sequence and the information! I will check the harness first and failing that, go through your sequence.

....my update
I apologize for not putting this up back when....!
After I went thru the tests etc, and putting in the new recall wiring and switch, I tried the on/off switch, no help, but a whole new shifter arm and wiring harness (and a new switch!) from Rock Auto was the solution! Looks like the wire(s) broke internally and was working then not...then working....then not.
Sounds sorta like what you are running into.
The entire arm with new wiring and switch was some ridiculous low price....of around $19 or so...(can't recall for sure) but it wasn't worth dorking around with trying to repair the wiring........or even the switch!
Still working today!!!!

I wanted to try your test, but on my 99 F150, made in Canada, w/ manual trans 4WD, there is NO cruise indicator light on the instrument cluster. I have the optional cluster w/tach. My owners manual does not indicate any CC indicator light. I will look up the TSB, but maybe it pertains to a later model, or manual shift has a different cluster.
