Default Cold Air Intake Problem

I bought a cold air intake off of ebay and put it on yesterday, today on my way to work my service engine soon light came on. I ran a diagnostic test and it basically said it was getting to much air through the mass airflow.
I went ahead and switched back to original and cleared the codes.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Two options:
1. I'd say ditch the CAI idea and do the Gotts mod. The stock intake flows more than enough air and just needs the restriction taken out. The CAI doesn't filter as well as stock also leading to higher silica levels in the oil etc. It's not that the CAI flowing more air, it's the movement and alteration in the area around the MAF that causes codes. It is tuned to have set parameters around it and the MAF adjusts to air needed.
2. If you must keep the CAI, you'll need a custom tuned programmer to account for the differences. The Hypertech in your sig can't be custom tuned so you'll be looking for a new device, which is why I suggest option 1.

Would disconnecting the Battery help by having the computer relearn with the CAI?

Well I may just ditch the cold air and do the gotts mod then. Maybe I can sell my CAI on CL for someone with a programmer. Thanks

I had a similar problem about a year ago. Took it off things got a little better. The MAF was fried to begin with.

here's the issue...the e-bay intake is poorly designed...when the MAF is pushed too far into the intake piping the increased flow you are getting causes the MAF to throw a code...simply try and add some spacers to the MAF port on the intake pipe if you can IDK the design you are working with...anyway that should solve your problem and make your truck run like a charm. Hope this helps

It would be easy, but no it won't help. Resetting the ECU only adjusts for the MAF in a stock environment. The MAF doesn't know the area around it has changed and can't adjust for air it doesn't know is there going over it. The flow is the same, a n/a motor only uses so much air, it's being able to account for it that matters.

Post #3 in this thread explains why a stock/canned tune can't adjust:

The MAF is directly off the filter. So I do not think it would help to space it out, that is if I am reading your post right. I was wondering if building an air box to reduce a little flow.

Like already stated, it could be the make. My K&N works great.
