Default Coilover Conversion

Sorry if this has been covered before but my search didn't bring much up, at least for us 2wd guys, anyways i'm tired of feeling like i'm living in the stone age with my coil bucket/shock setup. So, would it be possible to cut out the coil buckets, weld in a shock hoop, plate the lowers and add some custom mounts to rock some coilovers in there? Or is there something i'm not seeing that makes this not possible, i'm not looking for anything crazy just some more tune ability, thanks in advance!

1998 f150 2x4 4.6 Super Cab standard bed, currently has 3.5" spindles with 3" springs/control arms

Anything is possible with enough money and a fab shop. Are you planning on doing this in your driveway? I'd say no. If you own or work at a custom fab shop 100% work on it after work in your off time otherwise probably not gonna happen.

If I'm not mistaken, that's how the guys that put long travel on their trucks do it. They'll either weld in shock hoops or they may go more extreme and cage the entire front end and mount them on the cage. Look for a good off road fab shop. Prepare to fork out some cash but they'll do it.

Iv done plenty of fab work, thats not the part im worried about. I wanna make sure the angles and geometry will be ok since I will be using the stock lower, I guess im kind of trying to replicate camburgs 6.5 mid travel kit they had for a while, but with coilovers.

Well if you are fabbing your own upper then you can do pretty much anything you like.

Not fabbing my own upper, I still dont have enough know how to fab up actual suspension parts, I just basically wanna know if the angles and geometry could remain close to stock with coilovers and a shock hoop instead of the stock bucket, or even leave the hoop out and make an upper shock mount and run coilovers with the same travel as stock.

Of course you could get it close to stock with a hoop but keep in mind you stock arms will be the limiting factor as far as droop.
