Way better, but doesn't defeat the purpose of having to get your keys reprogrammed

I would call a few local auto shops, I doubt they can do it but they may know someone. I have a few buddies up at my local shop that do work for 1/2 off shop price, and I know and help them out a lot, there pretty much my friends! He worked up at Ford for 8 years, so he knows things and people. Anyways, when someone tried to steal my truck by busting out the ignition, the PATS system cut all power to the ignition and I knew I needed a new ignition. He knew someone who programmed the keys for $200! Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

If all else fails, the stealership will do it, but you may be looking at a huge repair bill.

First and foremost, I would verify your truck has PATS. Get the VIN number and call the dealer to see if it has the PATS system. Make sure to tell them your the registered owner!

Nahh PATS module is under/behind the dash just above pedals. Only the "Theft" annunciator is the cluster.

Does matter where it is, your truck will be towed to the dealership if you use your old key with a new cluster. That's all I'm gonna say, if you don't think I'm right, try for yourself. I'm just here to save you time and money.
