Intermittent Starting Problems
Starting about a month ago, my 1999 F150 had trouble starting sometimes. It will turn over but will not start. Twice I have gone into a store and came back out only having it not start up again. It started up fine before that. Recently it had gone a week starting just fine but has one again left me stranded. If I get someone to jump me off it will eventually crank. Talking to people at parts store, they said could be fuel pump or coil. I bought coil but did not put it in yet because I can't really afford to replace parts that are fine. It idles fine and runs well other than the starting issue. There is no knocking or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i believe pulling the bed is much easier than dropping the tank as the tank was built from the top before the bed was put on so there are breather hoses and clamps that are a PITA to get to from underneath, if you dont have rusted bed bolts i would try that first? Maybe someone can give you better advice but thats what I would try first.
pull the bed... I just did this about 2 weeks ago after dropping the tank a week before that... Even with two rusted bolts the bed was still by far easier to take off. Those hoses are a b*tch to get off while the bed is still on, then you also have to make sure your tank is dang near empty (if you want to be safe and easy).... Trust me just buy a 6pack and call a few buddies over to help lift it off. You'll be happy you did instead of dropping the tank. If you want a quick write up, I can search thru my posts (I posted it within the last 2 weeks and I don't post a whole bunch) or if you need/want them I can post up a more detailed version. I can even do a write up on dropping the tank if you truly want to go that route

You never pull the bed for pump R&R, unless you want to for some reason, - like get fired if you work at a shop lol. The tank is down in less than 10.
That the longest most troublesome, time consuming way to change out a pump, - plus it can cost yuh, if you end up breaking bolts. Definitely not the way unless you just want to and have the extra time.

Yes way, - and no way. - I'll have the pump out in 10
Like I said, you have to want to take the bed off.
1 disconnect on top and the vents pull right off, - one quarter turn CC, they pop out. Hoses don't need to come off but at the tank end.
Hell even full of gas you can drop them with a floor jack and a strap.
