Wow, that sucks. I'm sure if you explain to the post office how bad that screwed you they'll just say tough luck. Unfortunately you pretty much have to do like I said and hide a key under the dash or suck it up and shell out the cash. I wouldn't recommend the aftermarket keys though, they barely cost any less and if it doesn't work you're screwed and gonna have to buy one from the dealer anyway.

Instead of doing stupid things like bypassing the factory immobilizer you could get a locksmith to clone a key for you, shouldn't be more than $30

I never heard of that so I googled it and people said some ACE hardware stores can clone keys as well as some lock smiths. You won't have two master keys so you won't be able to program extra keys yourself but if you can clone them for $30 bucks it doesn't really matter.

When I got my truck it had one key, cracked down the side as well. Took it to my local dealership and they programed two new keys for around $60. That was three years ago now though. Ive been wondering though, if I swap to a mechanical diesel, would the immobilizer still work? The only way to really keep the engine from running is by killing power to the ve pump (or on the mechanical ve's physically blocking the line) to kill the fuel supply to the engine. So I guess I'm asking if the immobilizer active on the starting system when you turn the key to "start", or on the switched power "on" part of the system.
