Default changing the cv joints

Is it difficult to change the cv joints? theres alot of noise comin from down there and my mechanic says its from the cv joint. (but he cant work on my truck till late september, because of training) so that why i want to do it. Is there anything special i should be aware of when doing it?

Pretty easy really. Just tedious. You do need a 12 pt socket or breaker bar for the bolts holding it to the pumpkin. And the correct special size socket for the nut at the hub.

Assuming it's a 4wd truck, what kind of noise? Don't want to question your mechanics diagnosis but hubs are more common then cv joints, especially if the boots are not torn open. Changing the entire axle maybe more economical then the joint itself. Good luck

Grease the splines that go through the hub. I am talking about changing the complete axle now. Buy cardone cvs from rockauto, they are the best reman ford axles ive found.

It is super easy, if you have a lift or if you are skinny enough you don't even have to jack the truck up or take a tire off. It is just the 6 bolts that use a 12pt (I think 12mm socket) and the axle nut which I think was a 35mm socket. If you do take your tire off, make sure you brake the axle nut while the tire is on the ground because it will be a lot easier.

Take a look at this video:

I didn't need to remove the sway bar, but I am on a lift so it didn't get in my way.
