Hey guys lately in this cold weather when I cold start my truck the cams are very noisy and loud until the motor warms up for about 5minutes. So I changed the oil and put a new PCV valve in it and they are still noisy. Just wanting to know it this is normal or if it's bad. Thanks in advance, Clay.

Yes it's a 5.4 and they are noisy for about 5minutes after a cold start.

 

Yes it's normal.

 

Cam phasers are known for being loud in 3v engines.

Are you sure it's not a manifold leak? After 5 min it can warm up enough and expand to close of any leaks.

 

Does the 5.4 2v have cam phasers? And there's no exhaust leaks that I know of because that's the first thing I checked.

 

If you hear ticking from your valve cover it's likely your lash adjusters and that's normal for the most part.

 

Oh alright good. Also what's the lash adjusters and what do they do?
