Default Brake controller power?

Should I have constant power to the brake controller even when the truck is off and key out?

The controller should be able to be used when the key is off, so most likely yes to the first question. About the battery draining, NO. The controller is only fired when the brake pedal is pushed. You should be good to go.

I just checked mine and it has constant power. It is a Tekonsha, so it is a name quality brand. It works very well in lil Red.

Thanks ak for the quick response! Yeah mine stays green which the manual says green means 12v and yellow is power to trailer which is when I apply the brakes.

Whoa. That's not right. You should have no light when the vehicle is off. It should only come on when it sees the signal from the brake pedal or the key is on. Do you have maybe a bad brake light switch? Something isn't right with that. With the green sight on, you'd have an amp draw on your battery.

Wait so I'm confused, why did you say it was ok in the first response but no in the second response?

My brakes work, both truck and trailer, all lights work properly. My controller stays on displaying a green light which shows correct connection to 12v ... when I apply the brakes whether it's connected to a trailer or not the controller lights turns yellow, which means power to the trailer, it also has a red light (not on) to display any shorts in the system.

My Techonsha doesn't show a green light when armed, but does show a light when the brake is pushed. I'm not sure about your brand of controller. Maybe it would be best to ask the Amazon community what they've experienced with this brand.

Ok, I assume the higher brands would provide more features. So it would make sense. I did, hopefully I get some good feedback lol thanks

Got an email from the manufacture and they said it was normal for the light to remain on. And that it would take up to 6 months for it to drain the battery... so I'm assuming there's a drain but very minimal, no worse then leaving a cell phone charger plugged in with lights
