Default Bad Timing. Need help.

i swapped my heads and changed my timing chains and such and now i have run into a problem upon reassembly. So i could use some helpful advice now guys. I put the valvecovers on and the timing cover back on and the harmonic pulley. So i started turning the crankshaft and i get almost halfway from TDC and it binds hard. I know my timing is off but I wonder how far off. A degree or 2?
If im halfway from TDC what piston do you think is hitting the valves? Do i need any special tools to set the timing? I have the crank position tool im about to order the cam lock tool. All the synchronizing tools I’ve seen her for the 2004 and up or for the three valve set up. Please help.

my engine is the 4.6L 2valve

If you need more info i have a pi swap thread that has pictures and my play by play as the days have gone on.
Talk about demoralizing Fathers Day

So im just trying to figure this out if the crankshaft turns 90degrees from TDC does that mean that now the number 3 piston is now ready to fire? Or is it 180 degrees and the number 3 piston is ready to fire?

The piston is probably hitting the valve(s). Hopefully you're turning it over by hand with a wrench.

Sounds like you got your valve timing wrong.

I just kept working the crank and the cams back and forth until it all lined up. Don't force it. If you move the crank a bit, you can get it to move.

Just be patient, it takes a little time.

what do you mean? Like do you mean to take off the timing cover and valve cover and move the cam a degree over and try again? I was thinking maybe i would need some funky tool to degree the cams and that special cam locking tool.

When you time it is the crank keyway at the 12 0'clock position? Always only move the cams to line the marks not the crank, which i'm sure you already know.

I had this put up on another site many years ago.....it's gospel, no special tools required (specially a damn cam lock lol).

I don't think that "how-to" is accurate. I am pretty sure the crank needs to be at 11 o'clock.
