Default Adding Power Mirrors

I have a 99 F-150 XL I need some advice and help. I am wanting to upgrade it to power mirrors. I stopped by the local salvage yard to ask about wiring, switches, etc and they said I would have to replace the entire wiring harness under the dash and they would'nt even get involved with it. My question is, how difficult is it actually going to be to add power mirrors to my truck? Could they be wired seperately? I pull my camper with it and the factory original mirrors just arent good enough, so i bought 2 different sets of the slip-on/strap-on mirrors and they are just about useless as well.

Surely all it is is the switch going to them both and getting power to them, I want to install the entire shebang on my xl also

Well, thats what I am thinking, but I wish someone with some experience would offer their expert advice/opinion. Ive looked at the wiring diagrams and to be honest, I can't make heads nor tails of it myself.

I am very tempted to go back to the salvage yard, buy a used power mirror with at least the wires that are in the doors, buy a switch with some of the wires and plug attached and sit here at night and figure out how to make my own add-in harness and make it work on the bench, then install it into the truck.

Well seriously, I'm thinking like you, how hard could this be? It is just a 12 volt device. Feed power to it, experiment with which wires from the mirror to hook up to which wires on the switch to get it to move in the proper directions, take several thousand pictures, write down which wire colors go to which, say a prayer, rip the doors apart and go for it..... right?????

Where do y'all live? We could meet up and figure this out together on one of our trucks so we would all know what to do

I've already got my power windows in, power locks as well. I went with the Electric Life power windows and the MES power door locks, both from a1electric.com A relatively easy install and they work great. Right now I am installing a sound system in the truck. I'm trying to turn an XL into an XLT hybrid custom, I guess you could call it. cheaper than buying a new truck anyway. Well actually, let me add up all the receipts, , may have been cheaper to buy a new truck. I am going to give this some serious thought. Whats the worst that can happen? I burn up a switch or a power mirror. It will be used parts form the salvage yard anyway, no big loss.
