Default AC blows wrong?

In my 1998 v6 4.2 when i have the ac on and hit the gas it stops blowing through the dash and blows strong in front of the wind shield. Is this normal cause it doesn't feel like it? Thanks

Apparently its a vacuum issue. Whenever the system loses vacuum, the default is Def. I'd check all the lines and looked for a cracked one. One guy had a cracked hose right behind the battery.

It could also be the blend door. It's a pain in the butt to replace it, so I'd check the vacuum lines first.

Had the same problem with a 5.4. It was an old cracked up rubber vacuum line on the passenger side of the engine going to the plenum
