Default ABS Controller

The ABS controller in my 2003 F150 failed. The brake pedal got very spongy, and goes almost to the floor under normal braking. This happened after a very short stop when some idiot turned in front of me. Brakes have not been the same since. The hydraulic side of the controller is what failed, the electronics are fine. I have no ABS light. My truck has the 1L-2C346-AA controller. I have searched the web for a replacement, but come up empty. I called the local Ford dealership, and can buy a new unit for $737 plus tax... I really don't want to spend nearly $800 on that part, and am not real comfortable buying this part used... The dealership told me the part number had changed. Can anyone cross reference this part and tell me what else will work? Maybe I can find the newer part online? Thanks for any suggestions. Danny

Hi Danny, I lost my ABS controller last year, and it was 800 bucks. Going used can actually cost you more as you may get a bad one and you wont know until it is installed.
I have not heard of any suitable replacements for the controller.

You've got a couple digits missing out ot that part number I believe. I think this is the one you are after on Rock Auto.

whomrig, Thanks for the info. I agree about buying a used one, and will do the install myself. Most of the places I found that sell used ones offer a short guarantee. That said, I would be rather upset if I did the install and found out the part was defective. What I was hoping was that someone (any Ford techs on line??) can cross reference that part and give me the new part numbers. This will give me a larger number of parts to choose from. I am also wondering why so many places will sell you the electronic part rebuilt, but no one rebuilds the hydraulic side? Danny

white89gt, You are absolutely correct... I left off 2 digits. Thanks for catching that! The correct number is 1L34-2C346-AA. I looked at the part on Rock Auto. That part is the electronics only... My electronics are fine, what failed on my controller is the hydraulic half. Everyone rebuilds the electronics, but apparently no one rebuilds the hydraulics... Go figure. Danny

Here's the part # and info from tasca. Unfortunately, it's a discontinued part. You may be able to go to your local dealer and have them do a national search for it. Somebody may have one as new/old stock. You should be able to track one down.

I couldn't find any second source for the part. But I did find a company that rebuilds it for $89. I know nothing about them though. You'd need to dig a little deeper on them.

charliedyal, Thanks for the info! I believe the repair service rebuilds only the electronic part of the controller. My electronics are fine... The part number from Tasca is probably the replacement number for the complete unit, ECU and HCU. I will try searching for that part number now. I really only need the HCU, and may have found one...

Can anyone verify that 6L3Z-2C286-A is the correct replacement part for the hydraulic control unit? The ad for this part states it fits my truck, but I can make twin turbos "fit" if I try really hard...

Techrep, That part is the electronic half of the ABS controller only... I need the hydraulic part. Thanks. Danny
