Default 4wd locking up wheels

When engage the 4wd. The front wheels lock up when I turn. My rear tires start to peel out just to keep the vehicle moving. To test to see if the 4w engaged, I switched to 4w at a complete stop and even threw it in reverse a few times. Still locks up in both directions while turning. Is this electrical or due to the extreme rust that has accumulated?

Mine does the same thing. When I turn at full lock the truck has to try harder to move and the back wheels drag. I think it's normal because when in 4wd and when you turn it puts everything in a bind because when you turn your front wheels are moving faster than the back ones my 4wheeler does the same thing thats why I never put it in 4wd on pavement. Hope this helps, Clay

Unless you have posi diffs it should not lock up while turning

I have limited slips front and back if that's considered a posi.

Sounds normal. Even open diff will bind a bit in a higher traction area while turning. Good ls front/rear will exaggerate this. Its not a "problem" that's just how part-time 4wd works.

nope posi is basically a solid thru axel if that makes sense when you turn with a posi rear end you would notice it would feel like its skipping hard on your tires i dont think they come in half tons anymore.... back in the day they did but everything now has open/ ls rear ends for that reason

someone else with alot more knowledge will probably chime in and it explain it 100 times better lol

I'm surprised you haven't broke a cv axle. You don't run 4wheel on a good traction surface!!!! Ask questions if you don't know how something works BEFORE you go out and just start cranking the wheel at full lock for the hell of it!!!!!
