Default 4.6 question

will a 4.6 out of a 96 thunderbird work with our trucks? It’s a single overhead cam. I know the intake is different.

Yes, it should work. I have a 4.6 thunderbird motor from either a 90 or a 91.

If your truck is a 97-98 no problem but you will need the truck intake gaskets and intake manifold. 99 and up they change the sensors and placement and make it a bit more difficult to do. You have to take one sensor and add it to the crossover pipe, delete on knock sensor, etc.

Make sure you are swapping a 6 for a 6 (windsor) or a W for a W (romeo) or you will have some potential problems with your install. Many things are different with the two 4.6 engines. We are talking with another member right now on a P71 swap into this 97.

There is no such thing, not from Ford anyway. Well , not that I can remember. There's a 3.8.

Most of been a 92 or newer T-Bird Andy. 90-91 are the old windsor SBF bolt pattern on the bell housing, so that wouldn't work in your truck. 92 and newer have the Modular bolt pattern.

The way I understand it, just the factories they were built at. However, I may be wrong.
