Default 4.6 engine mods

Long time reader first time poster. Anyways I have a 98 f150 with a 4.6 v8, I love it but the truck is kind of gutless so I've been looking at building it for a bit more power.I first looked at throttle bodies and intake manifolds, I found an edlebrock manifold for a 4.6 modular engine, my question is if a intake manifold for a 4.6 modular engine is applicable in a 4.6 triton, I've been searching for months and i cant find anything, what say the forum? If not any suggestions?

They're the same thing. It's a waste of cash tho. There's better ways to get a little more out of her, - depending how deep your pockets are and/or how far your willing to go.

First thing I would do is update the old stuff on a 98...Bring all the maintenance parts and cleaning up to date, go thru it.

For a truck, MPH Torquer cams.

I have the Edlebrock intake on my mustang and it best used with a blower or Nitrous. Unless you're trying to make a race truck and want the higher RPM HP, Cams, bolt ons and blowers are your only real options for "a little more."

If its a NPI 4.6 you can swap the heads, cams and intake to PI. That's usually good for 60hp and a slight bump in compression. Combined with headers and a dyno tune it would feel like a new truck. ...disclaimer though, im not sure when trucks got the PI modulars.

I read on another forum that the intake would give you an improvement of 15-20% because of the larger throttle body and better circulation, is that false?

Also if I got PI heads would I need to take the engine out of the truck or is there enough room to swap them?

it's possible with the engine in, but would be world's easier to lift the cab or pull the engine

If they're referring to the car intake, it's designed for more Hp, but less torque. You have a heavy vehicle. You'll want more torque. Hp is nice, but not when you can't get it to the ground.

As said above, go through everything and get it up to date as far as maintenance. Then look into tuners. Cold air intakes aren't really worth it unless you are adding some aftermarket go fast parts. Plus, if you get the wrong one, you can hurt your motor with over oiling the filter or being too restrictive. The exhaust is another thing. If it's worn out/rusted, replace it. If not, maybe change the muffler(s) for a flow through design.

You can always go to lower gears. I had 2 trucks with the 4.6 and 3.55 gears, a 98 and an 05. In retrospect, I wish I had changed to 4.10's. That would have helped tremendously, and I don't think it would have hurt the mpg's much.

Im planning on a complete exhaust over haul with a dual 3" straight pipe , long tube headers, high flow cats and x pipe coming out infront of the rear passenger tire

3 inch is way to big for a true dual system on an NA 4.6. I would do 2.25 from the cats or headers to the mufflers or to the x then do 2.5 or 3 for the tail pipes
