4.2 to 5.4 engine swap?
Hi guys, I have a 2004 F150 heritage. I have 140,000 miles and the timing chain and transmission is going out. Now most of you will say sell it but I really have no choice but to keep it because three things; it was my grandfathers, I built it up pretty nicely, and im 17 and cant afford anything else. basically I can get a 5.4 rebuilt for 1800 and a brand new transmission for the truck for 700 and I have an auto shop where I can install it. I know I need a new engine and transmission wiring harness but what else will I need to complete the list? please no negative comments as this is what I want to do, thanks! 2004 f150 heritage 2wd 140,000 miles 4.2 v6

Best deal would probably be to get an entire truck with a 5.4L and start swapping stuff over. Don't be deterred, there are a lot of people on here who are going to say "buy a different truck" or "it's not worth it". Anything can be done but it won't be easy to say the least. Just be prepared for the reality of the project, it's a rough one.
Now to let the real experts chime in.

Where can you get a brand new 4r70w for $700? Buy a dozen of them and sell for a few hundred bucks profit a piece.

He can't afford this either I'd bet.
Sentimental value of a standard vehicle is over rated imo.

This swap is going to take a while. Be prepared to have your truck down while you work out the bugs. IIRC the motor mounts and transmission mounts are different. If you're dead set on doing the swap, I'd agree with the above to get a donor truck.
There are a few threats of people rebuilding the 4.2. Did you not consider this as well as rebuilding your transmission? It would probably be cheaper and it would damn sure be less of a headache.

thanks for the input everyone! I know a guy who can get the tranny cheap haha. and my dads helping me pay part of it, the transmission needs to be rebuilt and I just wanted to what needed to be replaced, for the timing chain and tranny rebuild it was like 3k. I have 33's on right now and am looking at 35's in the so near future anymore because of what happened. thanks!
