Default 2003 starting problems

4.6 just wants to continously crank like it is out of gas first thing in the morning after several minutes like an old dodge putting a screw driver in the carburetor is how it sounds but after it starts warms up for a bit runs and starts fine any ideas seems as this problem has been progressively getting worse over the course of probably a year to now where it almost won't start

I noticed my 2003 4.6L doing the same thing in over the course of a year. The truck does not throw any codes. I have replaced all coil packs about a year and a half ago, fuel filter, and crankshaft sensor recently. Cleaned the throttle body. I have ran low end fuel injector cleaners threw the system. Checked the fuel pressure and it seems to be holding. Do not really understand the bleed down process. I am still at a lost. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciative. thanks

sounds like you need a fuel filter...or injectors serviced... or your fuel pressure is loseing pressure..... the next time it does it.... turn the key off..wait a sec..turn on..wait a sec..off..sec..on..sec.off..sec..on then try to start.. if it fires up easy.. sounds like you are loseing pressure or fuel filter or injectors......

how long has it been since a tune up

Default 2003 4.6 Continuous cranking

I am going to try today the IDLE AIR CONTROLER YOU can check this by slightly pushing the gas pedal down before you start it what this does is Mechanically open the air way to mix with fuel these controlers are prone stick if it starts well then this so iam told could be the problem I have been doing a lot of searching the other thung is the Fuel PUMP Driver Module not sure if it is in the same place as an 04 but on an 04 it is under the spare tire it could be deteriorated from weather found this info searching , just easy things to check that keep the cost down good luck let me know

bobkyle2,
What your saying does make sense. I normally use low end injector cleaners. I now feel I need to have the injectors professionly flushed. Sometimes it starts over fine, but if it sits for while. It takes serveral revolutions of the starter to start the engine. So I'm thinking fuel delivery. I checked the fuel pressure and it seems to be holding. Fuel filter has been changed. If I'm missing something, please let me know.

Default Moving On

Ok so I have tried all this stuff as well everything checks out i am in the process of checking to see if the theft device may be shutting fuel pump down example could be as simple as the truck key my truck is in the garage so i am bringing the extra key tomorrow to try The mechanic is good he does not want to put any unnecessary parts in so he is trying to be thorough. I have been still searching so so far i have checked fuel pressure , changed cam sensor , checked the injectors etc for a fact when the truck starts it runs great st ill open for help thanks
