1997 F-150 A/C Problems
So my a/c has worked flawless until one day I was driving it, pulled out in front of someone so I floored it to get up some speed.
My a/c instantly stopped blowing cold and hasn't worked since.
The fan does blown and the heater works .
Can anyone help me figure out the problem?
Thanks guys

I wouldn't bother dinking with the low pressure switch. Most likely, the sudden acceleration caused the compressor clutch to slip and it gave up its last ability to engage.
Check the clutch gap (engine OFF) for excessive wear (>.054"). If excessive, either perform a shimectomy or replace the clutch.

This issue usually presents itself by working in morning when cold, then as soon as warms and cycles off, wont come back on. Or does when drive over bump. In other words, warning signs.
It is quite possible for clutch coil to burn out. Or compressor could have locked and toasted it.
Step 1 is to get compressor to turn

No, I signed up to answer questions (and I was bored). This thread just happened to be the first one I came across that had a number of answers already posted that were likely not going to be productive and for which I knew the correct answer (in most cases). There are other possibilities but I gave the most common scenario based on the details the OP provided.
As mbb has mentioned in his follow-up post, tapping the clutch plate will also yield the same answer if the gap is excessive.
I've been doing this stuff for quite number of years. Been there, done that, got the dirty T-shirt and the bloody knuckles and all that stuff. So, why did you sign up? To ask inane questions?
