Default 12" sub install

So i went ahead and bought a 12" sub that was a really good price because i had seen plenty of boxes that would fit under my back seat in my super cab. but the one i got has too big of a mounting depth to work in these boxes. does anyone have another way to install it? it has a 5 7/8" mounting depth.

Put it under the small seat and leave it flipped up.

Sell it and buy a shallow sub. Or raise your seat up.

Anyway you look it, you're going to need to be creative. It is physically too large.

I had this problem too. But it's a super easy fix. Mount it to a piece of wood, this will keep your sub straight up so it won't fall over. Next set your planer to about 5" 's. And send it through, wood side down. Now, the planer will argue with this, and won't like it. But remember, you're the boss. And it won't respect you if you just give in, so just shove it in. Remember! Be safe, watch your hands. A planer is a dangerous tool when misused. This should take off the extra inch that you need for space and you'll be golden.

I don't know the depth of your box, but maybe you could cut out the back of the it where the sub hits and use a piece of plexiglass on the outside of it to seal it back up. You may be able to buy a box that already has this done.

Not exactly recommended because the speaker needs to have enough room between the vent and back wall to cool properly.

How much space do I need between the bottom of the sub and the box. I slid the sub by itself under the seat and it fits with about 2 inches to spare

I guess you could pull apart your sub box and but an inch out of its walls if you want to go that route. Just be sure not to starve the sub of air space.
