Does the superchips one help with towing at all? It doesnt have a tow function per say but if I put it on performance mode will it hurt anything to tow like that?

Mine has a tow feature but reading the manual for the Superchips tells me that running in 87 octane mode is the best bang for your buck...I really notice a difference in how the truck responds. I get better mileage and better performance in 87 octane mode.

If you run it in performance mode, you have to burn higher octane fuel.....I don't figure it will hurt anything to to tow in performance mode-only your pocket book when you have to fill up.

I also have a 04 Heritage with 4.6 and auto trans, had it about six weeks and love it. My question is how can you tell if you have the '04 motor? Thanks, Jim.

I took down the engine serial number and my truck's vin and had it checked at Ford Canada...apparently they ran out of engines when they made my truck as it was made July 29 '04...

My friend bought a new body style '04 and it was made in Nov '03..really cranked him up that my truck was newer....

I looked up a vin decoder and it shows 4.6L SOHC/EFI (W) Does this give any clue to if it has the older or new motor or will I have to get the serial no. off motor. Thanks, Jim.

..perhaps......my neighbour has an '06 with the 4.6 and our engines look identical...he was surprised on how much power I had compared to his though...now he wants to find a programmer and do the things I have done...jealousy is a bad thing for the pocket book...

The motors I believe are identical except for the heads. Dont quote me on that. But if you did get some frankenstein truck with the 97-03 body and a 3v motor then you scored big time. They made more power and our trucks are lighter than the new style.

Any programmer made for 97-03 should work with your truck. I can't see why the Edge wouldn't work. Did you buy 1 and try it? Or someone tell you it wouldn't? It's same ECU as 99-03. It was just a leftover that they sold in 04' right before the newer body style came out.
