Default Wiring Help

I'm trying to mount some lights inside my tool box on my 05 fx4. I found the lime green wire under my drivers side door that is suppose to be able to run power to a topper light, figured this was the easiest place to draw power. I ran power to a inline fuse, with a 3 amp fuse, then to an on/off switch and then to the light. I then ran a ground wire from the light and drounded it below the truck under a bolt. When I reconnected the battery and turned on the key, I had nothing! I then tried to just skip the inline fuse and on/off switch and just run my wire straight t my light, with no luck. Just wondering if I need to put a fuse in somewhere for that green wire or what, any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

Did u try moving the ground? This happened to me when wiring my reverse camera, it had a short ground wire and had to find a successful ground bolt.

You need to buy a 12 volt wire tester. And check to see if the wire is hot. It's a very handy tool.

Either your ground is bad or you dont have your 12v. You need to first make sure the ground bolt that you used is clean, the wire is seated between the bolt and the metal, and that the bolt is either tapped into the frame, or the bolt mount is attached to the frame. Also like steelhauler said get a volt meter and check to make sure you have 12v and a good ground.

X2 ^ for both of those replies, it makes more sense that you might not be getting enough power from that wire. Volt meter is a great idea.

Still having trouble with this wire, Tried moving the ground multiple times and I don't seem to be getting power, just with my voltmeter. How hard is it to wire into a fuse in the fuse box, preferbly one that has constant power.

Try checking the wire with a test light.

Your problem may be like something I have done in the past.

Test with the interior lights on, then off. That wire might be linked to either the interior light switch, or the brake light circuit if it's for a topper.

That may explain why you have no power.

Sometimes the solution could be embarrassing and good luck.
