Default Window Problems

Hello all, I have searched but can't find exactly what my issue with my truck is. Ok, going to town and my wife rolls passenger window down. This is an 06. It would not roll back up with either my button or hers but would roll down more with her button. Get home and start trying to figure it out. Having power to motor with passenger button in down position but not up position. Driver side would do nothing. I seen my local parts store had master switch clusters in stock. I went and picked one up. Same problems. The read somewhere it says hold button up and slam door. So I hold driver's side button in up position and slam door. It goes up about 3/4 and stops. I can't get it the rest of the way up. Where do I even start to look for the issue. Thanks

Look in the door jamb accordion for broken wires.

If your inspection of the wires inside the rubber, accordion shaped wire cover for each front door doesn't disclose a broken one, it could still be that a wire is broken inside its wire cover. You could try manipulating these wires while either up button is pressed to detect that.

Broken wires in the door jam area can usually be found by looking closely at the wires outer insulation jacket, look for bulges in the wire indicating the break point.

Thank you all so much for the help. What is the best way to access these wires in the molding?

Just peel back the rubber boot
The grommet will come right out and can be put back after the wiring repair
Repairing the wires with a lasting repair is the hard part
They will break again in a few years, has been my experience
If the wiring is good, replace the master switch in the drivers door

  • You can temporarily stuff the rubber, accordion looking "molding" and its end grommets into the hole in each door's frame.
  • If you don't find the problem this way, the master switch, passenger switch and other circuit components can be tested with a multimeter/ a.k.a. voltmeter to pinpoint the cause.

I had some time today so I went and investigated. It was a broken wire in the boot. Seemed like it would be pulled awful tight if I just used a connector. So I have some that are wire crimp connectors with built in heat shrink. So added a short piece of wire and crimped and then heat shrinked. Hopefully it will hold up but windows and all are working for now. Thank you so much for the help.

Thanks for reporting back, and good job fixing it.
If you have problems reappear, the better way of fixing it as suggested before is to splice in a new piece of wire in the jamb, and have the crimp or solder joints inside the door and behind the kick panel rather than in the jamb getting flexed.
