Glad your OK. I bet the semi didn't have a scratch.

Regarding the "90% sure it will be totaled". Looks can be deceiving. My wife has a dodge stratus RT, less than 5 months old and she was involved in an accident. Total cost to repair was just under $15k and the car was valued at $19k. They fixed it.

Those pics look rough. Glad you're alright. I had my first wreck this year because of stupid ice so I'm right there with you. Thank goodness it wasn't in my KR though.

Since you asked, Simply because you were going too fast for conditions. Possibly because you were casual with your responsibility to other drivers.
Maybe Karma!!!

it all comes down to book value and the cost of the repair.

Totaling a vehicle is an economic decision. Take that from someone who has sectioned two totaled ZR-1's together to make 1 car, among other projects.

The fact the bumper ripped off is actually in your favor as it gave way and didn't keep dragging the frame over to the right.

A GOOD frame tech could remove the sway and level the rails in about 6 hours.

You need a complete used bed and a rear bumper, that shouldn't be too hard to find.

Is there any damage to the right rear of the cab? is the space across the back of the cab to the front of the bed straight? that is a big indicator of the level of damage.

If you were in my area ( Boston) I could fix the frame for you for short money.

Man.. you guys are harsh. Where I live we deal with snow and ice for a good chunk of the year so you get pretty comfortable with it and learn quick what speed is appropriate. Even being used to it, sometimes ice can catch you unaware.

That said, the pics look like the rear tires were getting down there in tread and not running sandbags in the bed during winter it's almost guaranteed you'll kick out the rear end occasionally.

Either way, I'd say his karma must be pretty good for them both to walk away from a semi collision unharmed. Sorry for your loss joksamno, but I'd say it's the best ending you could ask for.

because driving comes with responsibilities, that include you and every one else that may be using the road. He asked why. I offered my opinion. You actually pointed out more of the obvious. There are many reasons some/most are the responsibility of the driver.

First off, glad you are alright; getting hit by a semi is no typical accedent. A few more feet forward, and it would have been the cab that the semi slammed into.

I gotta say though, your statement of "just relaxing and enjoying the drive" may not have been the right thing to do when there's snow and ice on the road ways!

Glad your alright, and just remember, the truck can be replaced; that's why you have insurance. Not everyone can get hit by a semi and walk away to talk about it.
The roadways were cleared except for the 100 ft or so where the incident happened. There was no warning either. It was a hill dight after a bend. But I was only driving like 35MPH.. But I do agree with your statement of being able to talk about it after the accident with a semi. Thank you and all who allowed me to vent my distress and kindly nudged my moral.. You all are AWESOME...
