When I did the Gotts and EVO I got 3 MPG improvement, went from 15 to 18+, and I have the 4.6L 4X4 SCAB. Maybe when you did the mod you put it in too far or not far enough blocking the flow and did not get the benefit of more air. If you want to leave it stock I would agree with the poster that said to leave battery disconnected for a longer period of time. I think I would redo the Gotts and make sure it was clear of obstructions and fit the fender hole correctly.

Sorry about that, i was looking at another thread at the same time that involved the 5.4; I removed my misinfo.

About 15-16 in town and about 17-18 on the road is normal for a 5000 lb. truck with a 4.6L V8. Nothing (mods) is going to change the mileage a great deal. Be grateful technology has improved... My 1973 4x4 got 10 in town and 13 on the highway, and that was when I babied it. In the mud I swear I could watch the gas needle dropping! I remember being enraged when gas prices shot up to .40 cents a gallon.

I've read more than one poster saying their tuner "mileage improvements" did NOT match the pencil and paper mileage calculations. The tuner claiming a couple mpg more than the truth.

I try not to "rationalize" my truck/bike/gun mods (except to my wife!). Spend what you can afford/want to on your truck.

if your plugs wires.. are old i would start there
be sure your engine temps are getting to normal operating temp... too cool will hurt your mileage
synthetics will also help...motor...trans..and rear diff..
jack up and make sure you dont have a tight wheel bearing... or brake grabbing
also winter gas have diff mixes and your mileage will flucuate(spl??)

I keep seeing in these threads that "you should clean your MAF". I always assumed that these things were self cleaning using the heated wire?

I have had the opposite experience. My AMPG usually shows 14-15 but my actual was 18. I am still monitoring but this has been my findings over 5 tanks of fuel under all kinds of driving conditions. I always do manual calculations so I know there was a real improvement (3 mpg) from my pre EVO driving.

I think most of that lays in that when people get a tune and wake up the truck, they get that 'racer' mentality and start using more RPMs because they like the feel of the truck more.

Although it effectively would use less gas if continued to be driven like a grandma, tuning does open up a bit more for gas comsumption if the driving habits change to more aggressive throttle.

I think you misunderstood my post. The bold type was from someone else saying that their EVO AMPG showed higher than their manual calculation of gas mileage. My EVO AMPG shows lower than my actual manual calculation which is contrary to the other posters comment/experience. Has this happened to anyone else running an EVO and Gotts?

That was me, merely restating what others posted. This is the first post I've read that stated actual mileage went up after a tuner install. Good news to me as I'm getting my truck a Gryphon for Christmas. My 4.6L 4x4 STX gets an average of 16 in town and 17-18 on the road now, so I'll enjoy any improvement. Still, this '06 4.6 is better by far than my previous 350 '73 Chevy and '92 4.9 I6 Ford. More power, more torque, and better mileage than either ever had.
