Default What floor jack to get??

What floor jacks are everyone using? I'm looking into getting a floor jack for my 06 f150 4.6l and my wife's 2010 Edge Sport to do brakes and what not. I was looking at some jacks at harbor freight and the one I'm looking at has good reviews and I can get one for $70 on sale plus 20% off but it's a 2.5 ton would that be enough fir my truck? It's a Pittsburgh rapid pump part# 68049. Also I'm looking to get a set of their 6 ton jack stands. Anyone have any experience with either?

I have had no probolem with my HF 2.5 ton jack, FYI they do not allow you to use the 20% off coupon on sale items or on shop jacks. Check the fine print........

I would go with a 3 ton, 2.5 is 5,000lbs and your only raising the front end, but you don't wanna skimp on a jack. lol

I have the 4 ton craftsman floor jack, I use it on the SD when I need to, no worries. plenty for the F150 and ur other ride.

Do not get under any jacked up vehicle unless you have jackstands supporting the weight of the vehicle. We have a race shop here on site and they eat up those H-F jacks. I have a Snap-on jack and stands and and they work great. I bought some of the H-F short jack stands to use on my car since my other ones are pretty tall, first time i used them one failed while I was shaking the car to make sure everything was sturdy. the next time to the dump I tossed them.

Don't go for less than a 2.5 ton jack.....I have the harbor freight one. Harbor freight jack stands do look a bit cheesy. I didn't trust them. If you are just going to do some occasional wrenching that jack should be fine. These are heavy trucks but you won't be lifting the whole thing at once. Don't work without jackstands. I would try Sears for some jack stands, and use them on concrete, but I am sure you know that. You might want to check the lift height of the jack.

I got a 3 ton (don't remember what manufacturer) low profile aluminum jack that lifts up to 19" but i need to put a chunk of 4"x4"on top to get enough stroke to even lift the truck off the ground. so just watch how high the jack lifts so it can even get the tires off the ground.
