Have an 04 F-150, 5.4 Lariat. Best truck I've ever owned. 77k miles. Punched it from a dead stand still making right turn today. The next two starts from sitting still produced a fairly loud (very noticable) "clank" from right underneath middle of truck. Checked u-joints not to long ago but will check again. Any other thoughts on this. Drove truck about 10 miles with no issues afterwards....of course I was going easy then.

I'd say to check the u-joints as you stated first.

Is it a 4x4? Was 4x4 "on"?

Can you "feel" the clunk (i.e. as if it is the drive train), or is it just noise? Maybe a loose muffler/exhaust hanger.

That's what I was fearing. When it rains it poors. Gonna' get to checking it out tomorrow. I definately don't baby my truck but I don't abuse it either. Let a slow poke get to me and just stood on it out of the gate. Do-over please. Thanks for the fast reply and any others in advance.

Jack the rear wheels off the ground and rotate the drive shaft, it sounds just like a U-joint problem to me!
