well the decision has been made not to re build my motor and just to buy a new motor from ford for 3800.. because number one noone near here likes to work on modular motors and number two if i did have it rebuilt it would cost more than a new motor so now i guess i am just gonna drop the money and order it and that means no headers but its okay atleast ill have my baby back in action......

I think we are still curious what happened to the motor though. Broke piston, blown bearing, cracked heads, broke crank,,,,any clue??

Broke a crankshaft once in a vehicle. What about a used one? Would you trust it after that? How many miles were on the original motor btw?

Good Luck

if it was me i would take the engine from your truck to a performance shop and get it built, make it rock solid, you cant tell me it would cost more than 3800 bucks, it might cost some more but you would know that you have a motor that can take a beating instead of a used one which might hold up and might not, youve already got the motor out just take some where and talk to them...

Yeah i agree, a rebuild should come in well under that 3800 leaving money to play with.

well the problem with rebuilding is it either has to go to ford wich would cost a fortune or i have to find a mechanic around here who would do it and so far no mechanic within a 100 miles wants to tear down a modular and plus rebuilding as priced out is about 4000 in parts plus labor... and retail the 5.4 goes for about 4800 but a good friend of mine owns a shop in town and shop price for the motor is 3800.. so i will order it through him...
and there is no core charge on the motor..

so that means when i get the new motor in my possession i can start tearing in to mine and exploring..

the conclusion we have come to is that i have lost many rings on the motor on a few pistons because A. in the oil pan it looks like some body poured glitter in my motor its a lot of shavings needless to sat and B. i can rotate the motor with plugs IN and i can hear air witch would supposed to be contained in the combustion chamber escaping by the sidewalls on the pistons

sounds like what you have left is a pretty heavy paperweight.

well i just noticed your from CA, ha thats ridiculous on prices lol, and i never heard of shops not wanting to work on a modular motor, ha around here if you want it fixed theyll do it and alot cheaper, i guess that works but i would look around online for a performance shop and maybe try to work it out that way, sounds like youve got a good core and about nothing else left with your motor lol

It is very lame that shops around here won't work on them I mean it's just like any other motor it's got pistons , crank , cams …ect but I think the problem is that the motor requires special tools from ford and the shop doesn't wanna have to go buy the tools that they will only babur use once or twice a year and that's why ford does it so they can garentee they are making money and it shows because it's still called ford not government motors hahah

but I'm not to bummed on the whole situation but hey I am gaining knolage on how to rebuild my truck

I just added a Roush kit to mine and i'm curious about the mileage on your motor for my own sake. How many miles did it have on it when you put it on and how many when it finally broke on ya. What kind of lbs were you running on the supercharger?

Did the oil have anything to do with it?

Ran it too hard the day before and put it up wet?...lol....any ideas?
