Default Update 08 Navigation without CD player?

Recently bought a loaded 08 including navigation and a 6 disc changer. Did not come with the navigation DVD, I see lots of them on ebay. But the 6 disc changer does not work, (I tried to repair, there are broken plastic guides inside, doubt they are available) Is the navigation DVD played with the 6 disc? Is there any other way to use the navigation without the DVD, update through the line in?

So what are you saying, the changer itself doesn't work but the rest of the unit does? Does it still feed and play the position where it's currently stuck? Try sticking a DVD in there and see what happens.

Does the the dvd need to remain in. Or just once to load?

So I would need to buy a cd player and the disc sounds expensive compared to using my phone for navigation.......

My factory navigation unit has a separate DVD load for the navigation disk.

If it's a factory navigation system, go here for a free PDF manual:

http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Fo.../08pnosn3e.pdf

On page 41 of this PDF, it shows you how to load a navigation disk, which uses a separate slot to hold the disk; It does not use the DVD slot used to load music into. The navigation slot is behind the screen. Follow the directions to get the screen to lower in order to access it. It must remain in the slot for navigation to work.

Hopefully that works... hate to have you buy the DVD and then have the unit not work... stock replacement units are around $600 last time I looked, at this point I'd probably head to Crutchfield and look for a much newer version with more modern capabilities before spending that amount of money on a seven-year-old unit
