So far, the fan is operating as it should; comes on at low speeds / air conditioning/ hot trans, runs a couple seconds at start-up until the viscous fluid is all distributed.

I KNOW I got the trans hot dragging that trailer through the stop lights in Des Moines, just curious how hot it got. We weren't doing that for very long, just had to get from chipotle to her aunt's house.

It came on for a bit on the freeway, there was a couple hills where it downshifted but didn't lock-up the torque converter clutch again. That's about the time the O/D Off button got mashed and stayed there. Could tell how much heat was getting into/out of the trans by listening to the pitch of the fan. Much fun when 300 miles from home. hehehehe.
have you done any PM to your trans?

Working on that...

Last summer (about 20,000 miles ago) dropped pan, changed filter for a Wix, refilled.

Trying to get the lines apart to do a pump-out flush, but things is rusty. Now, I'm pretty sure the thermal bypass is not working, so I'm going to pull the core out of it and do the pump-out that way, change to a Motorcraft pan filter, and stick a Magnefine in the cooler lines. I have three 5-qt jugs of Mercon V that are just sitting around at this point.
