Transmission Life span
Who here has the highest mileage on their transmission without rebuilding it and well maintained. I'm currently at 179,000 miles the transmission shifts perfect and I was just curious.
Heat kills transmissions. If you don't let it overheat I'd expect 300,000+. If you tow heavier loads a lot it's more likely to have spent some time hot and that number could be significantly reduced.
They'll go 400k if you baby them
I can burn one up in a weekend towing a boat
As Ford technicians we used to joke about those early 6.9's and 7.3's
"Run 'em 400k, replace the E4OD and run 'em 400 more
Those early diesels lasted forever but the trannies wouldn't

330k+ and still going strong....
Back when I replaced everything during my renovation I was going to replace the transmission as well. The techs at Ford (who were friends) asked me how it was operating (at 280k miles) and it was functioning perfectly. They all recommended to keep running it until it died... so I have. So far so good....
