Sorry guys this dosnt have to do with temps for me but I am just about to do a gear swap with 37s, black05, is 4.56 enough gearing for 37s? Or should you have done 4.88? I want to still be able to hit 100 and have fun every once in a while but iv heard you have no top end power with 4.88s, but on the other side I'd like to be able to spin the tires, can you do this with the 4.56s?

I see...Where did you have your gears installed? a 4x4 shop, tranny shop, or local mechanic? Gears themselves are like 500 for front and back so im assuming the labor is the worst part.

Fair question...I would like to know the answer as well..I have heard best would be 4.88's since if you go to 38's youd be covered as well. I would take low end over top end anyday.

yes 4.56 is enough for 37s it's not a rocketship by any means but its a little bit better acceleration. I can still hit 100 and no I can't spin the tires by just punching it off the line but I can power brake it and boil them over pretty good the reason I went with 4.56 over 4.88 is because I drive the interstate and highways a lot and you will get better mpg because you won't be running as high of rpms. my truck still feels sluggish off the line it always has been even with 35s I guess it's just the truck lol. but at like a 30 or 40 roll if I punch it it's not to bad it gets up and goes

Yeah I hear ya on that...okay. Around 1600 is what the census seems to be for pricing.

I know the thread went off topic from trans temps, but I thought I'd throw my stocker's out there: i run between 155-160 on the highway at 75mph in South Texas.

edit: Ah, never mind. I have a 4R70, not a 75.

You can get a trans cooler for $30 through summitracing.com. it looks pretty easy to install. Even with new gears, I'd install one.
