Mercon V. I installed a drain plug from B&M in my pan but you can buy pans with it already in it. Every 10k I drain 4 quarts and replace. 4 quarts is all that drains, and even that takes a while. At 156k, my fluid is very red and smells sweet.
Same here. Plug in pan. Drain and refill with 4 qts. of Motorcraft Mercon V. FYI, not sure if this is common knowledge, but when I went to my dealer parts department to get some Mercon V last week, I was told the part number has changed. Also, there was a sharp price increase. New wide mouth bottles, too.

Keep changing every few days/or so many miles until you go thru 20 quarts of mc mercon V. You can get fluid thru amazon some dealers will match it .
Gasket is reusable but keep changing fluid over the years .
Dorman 265-813 Transmission Pan with Drain Plug amazon
If you want to use Motorcraft Mercon V, definitely order from Amazon. My dealer wanted over $9 a quart for it. While you have the pan off, go ahead and pop in a new filter. Amazon has the Motorcraft FT105 for $18.
Transmissions use transmission fluid, specifically Mercon V in this case. If you want advise on tranny fluid, talk to Bruce Jenner.
A simple and inexpensive upgrade is replacing the factory transmission pan with the Dorman pan, it has the drain plug built in and the drain plug is in the front of the pan hump so it makes less of a mess when you drain it. Rock auto has the best prices on the pan, roughly $26.
