Trade in Value BS
So for my 25th BDay on Sunday, I went to trade in my 06 KR on a new Mustang GT and those
only wanted to give me 12,500 for my truck which is an insult! They've got an almost identacle one out on thier lot for 24,995 and they wanna tell me that my truck has dropped 10,000+ dollars in the matter of only 10 months. So I gave home-boy the finger, told him to go
himself and walked out. It took every bit of civility in my system not to whoop the jerk's
. Any one else run into these problems?

C/N - I worked at a dealership years ago, stay calm or get F'ed with & laughed at.
^ truth.
>_<
I was able to get $1000 less than KBB/NADA trade-in for my MS6 and got them to take off $500 off the truck. So I paid a tick over book value for my truck based on negative equity. Dealers are out to make a buck and some will try to screw you to do it, but not all will.
What that tells me is that they don't want any more used inventory. Otherwise they'd offer more. Especially if they had a similar truck already on the lot...

Reading your quote... the picture i see isn't pretty. Salesman F'ing with you after noticing that you can't hide becoming easily pissed. Within a matter of NO time, he knew this wasn't ending in a sale, so he just F'ed with you even more. Finally, you pulled the act in the quote that left the salesmen laughing their butt off after you left.

Works both ways...so when I'm board and I know the car salesman is starving (hasn't sold squat) I go in and throw around some rediculas numbers just to show them how it feels. Yes I hate dealers. Then I walk out laughing.
Dealers play this game all the time.
2010 Mustang GT at dealer in Austin is 35,710 MSRP. Internet special on it is $29,988. Plus $2500 cash back. They are gonna tell you that they are taking $8222 of the vehicle already, so in essence you are only rolling over $2000 into the new loan. Makes you feel like you are getting one hell of a deal.
Best advice I can give is to go have a friend take you to the dealer. Find the car you want, work the rock bottom price.....get it on paper. Then tell them you want to think about it. Come back in a few hours and tell them you want to drive home today....but now you want to trade your truck. Only take the initial deal they offered, and work up on the trade.

This My friends is GOLDEN advice, if there is any advice I can give you on dealing with dealers this would have to be the one bit of advice I would listen to. You can't get emotional and get upset. It is a big game. Who is going to "get sold" you or them. You have to play the game too, talk about how great your truck is, how you never had any accidents, blah blah blah, once you have their lowest price in writing come back with your vehicle and talk about the trade, you have them by the *****, they have a written paper with the agreement and you have your trade in value. talk up the trade in and you might have your self a mighty good deal. If you still aren't convinced try getting a friend with a dealers license take you to the auto auction, but even then you might only make a couple hundred off what you normally pay.
LOL! My anger is not as visible as it may sound. I'm not new to this whole game at all. I'm 25 and I've had 14 cars/trucks. So I know an insult when I see it. KBB said my truck is worth 19K trade in value, worth 24.5K private seller. I was just looking for around 17-18K trade in. I know they gotta make a profit off of it, but I'll be damned if they make the profit from pulling from my ***. So, I'm just gonna sell my truck out right to a lucky person. lol I really had to laugh about all this looking back. Cuz in the end, I got upset and didn't get my Mustang, but I still drove away in a beautiful truck and he went home with out a sale. So he may be laughing too, but that was a very SLOW weekend for them, the customers were all at a big Fair on the Square thing down town. So I think I'll laugh a little more than him. But as far as a decent person, he was. So I'll go back and do business with him when I'm ready to buy a new car. It was his boss that was a tool. lol
Based on his reponse to the dealer's offer I would suspect so. Many of us here have lived through this on more than one occasion.
tjordan - lots of good advice from some of the guys, but it's up to you to figure out what is the best way for you to go.
Just as information, I purchased a 2006 Screw 4X4 King Ranch with 65,000 miles yesterday for less than $20,000. Found it on Craigslist.
If you really want out of your truck and into that Stang then I would post up on Craigslist at an attractive price. The price on the one I just purchased was so good that the seller had several calls within the first day, mine being the first. You could have the same result, but the price has to be low enough to attract interested and qualified buyers and high enough to satisfy you.
