At least you're not the sucker that agreed to it. It happens all the time.

sell it your self.. you make the most.. but there is a trade off.. you have to wait for it to sell...

and in this "I WANT IT NOW" world those dealers will stay in business....

This.

As for the truck on the lot being $24.995- well you dont know how much they paid for it vice how much they had to put into it to get it to sellable condition.

They quoted you fair market value on a wholesale basis (more than likely) wich is what you should roughly expect no matter what dealer you go to. Dealerships usually tend to lowball you as a start knowing that you will never pay sticker price for the vehicle you intend to purchase. In all, after haggling on your intended purchase and your trade.... you'd have probably lost only about $4k in value on your truck WICH IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU PAY FOR CONVENIENCE. You dont have to wait for someone to maybe buy your truck before your next payment is due. You want immediacy, take it to a dealer. You want to wait to get the most money, put a For Sale sign in it.

Its a wicked game that has its benefits. Welcome to the world of dealing in autos.

Thats messed up man.About two weeks ago i saw a 2002 F-350/7.3 turbo D.Went to see how much they would give me for my trade in,$14,000.So something is wrong here when i get more for my 06 XLT 150 than your KR.Yes sell it outright or shop around to see what other places will give you.

Still debating on whther i want a truck payment since my truck is payed off now and since i have a 03/7.3 TD.

Dealers play this game all the time.

2010 Mustang GT at dealer in Austin is 35,710 MSRP. Internet special on it is $29,988. Plus $2500 cash back. They are gonna tell you that they are taking $8222 of the vehicle already, so in essence you are only rolling over $2000 into the new loan. Makes you feel like you are getting one hell of a deal.

Best advice I can give is to go have a friend take you to the dealer. Find the car you want, work the rock bottom price.....get it on paper. Then tell them you want to think about it. Come back in a few hours and tell them you want to drive home today....but now you want to trade your truck. Only take the initial deal they offered, and work up on the trade.

I understand the need for a dealership to make a profit. And I didn't expect to get full value for my trade in. But 10K undercut is outragouse. If you were selling your truck and you were asking 24K for it and I offered you 14K, and told you it was because I wanted to turn around and sell it for 24K, would you take my offer?

You offered it to a business not a person though. Think of it this way. They have to take the truck, run multiple test, inspections, probably change out the fluids, etc, and pay the guys to do it and take up shop space. So what was a 10k undercut is really only a 6 or 7k undercut. Than they list it at whatever and will probably end up dropping one or two off the price during the haggling process so now profit is only 5 or less. Than they have to distribute the 5k to all the expenses and overhead.

A person take the truck, does an oil change and thats that. I think on average you can expect 5k more by selling privately vs trade in.

I pulled up KBB and suggested retail was 25k (on the dealers lot), private party was 20k, trade in was 16k. I put 50,000 miles and left all options standard. 2006 King Ranch Supercrew 5 1/2 bed

Dont get me wrong, im as Anti dealer as anyone. When I got my 08 I made them raise the trade in of my old truck 1k, take 10k off the sticker, give me 500 for being a student, and throw in a remote start. Walked away a happy camper.
