I don't think those are exactly the same size.

Your 295/70r18 would have a total tire height of 34.25" - May require a lift, not just a level.

The 285/65r18 would have a total tire height of just over 32.5" - Probably fine without a lift.

I've read that you can run 33" tires with just a level but any more requires a lift kit.

I don't know anything about the brands you mention, but I suppose the tread pattern and brand come down to a matter of taste.

Not an exact answer to your question but here's a pictures of my 05 for comparison.

Purchased new 305/70/17 AT's or 33.81 x 12.01 x 17's and mounted them on my stock 17x7.5" wheels. Leveled and then lifted the truck an additional 1". (3" coil spacer up front / 1" taller then stock blocks rear. Installed 2" wheel spacers just for a wider stance and the look, NOT due to any rubbing issues.

Had it aligned

I had no rubbing with the 305 x 70 x 17's at all, even at full loc in both directions and did not take a measurement at that time. Because they were only 12.01" wide they did not stick out from under the trucks fender flairs at all. After I went taller I wanted it a little bit wider so I ordered spacers just for the look. Again they did not rub my UCA's at all at full lock in both directions. I have my 305's mounted on my stock 7.5" x 17" rims with 5.5mm back spacing. It's important to keep the stock wheels that came with your truck to prevent any rubbing or keep the same back spacing to prevent any problems with new rims. There are a lot of write UPS on this site about this subject if you want to research it. Here is a pic of Before & After I added my wheel spacings just for the looks of a wider stance.

have you noticed any premature wear?
im thinking of the 305/65r18 nitto ridge grappler and a 2.5 inch rough country level and then maybe wheel spacers depending on how they look!

$69.99 - 2" front level / 1" front lift / 1" rear lift
https://www.ebay.com/itm/324268025190
$99.99 - 2" wheel Spacers - Amazon
305x70x17's
$107 - 4x4 aligned
No vibrations, drives straight as an arrow, no premature wear. This would depend on how worn you front end components are before you install this setup. I have no regrets with a total of $276.98 to lift it.
