Tire pressure
I have falken wildpeak tires size 315/70/17. They are d rated with a max psi of 50, what pressure is recommended? Tire shop said forty, which I ran for a bit, but they looked a little squatty so I bumped to about 44 first then down to 42. Opinions. I have done some reading of which most is for 65 or 80 max psi tires. Thanks.

We own a tire store and when we put on tires that call for a max of 50 on a full size truck we typically load it up with 45 unless the customer uses their truck for hauling lots of weight then we'll bump it up to the full 50.

So far they are great. Had them in a few off road situations and they have handled it great. Look good too. Overall happy with the purchase. Sold my terra grapplers to a friend and got a bigger set with these. Rocky mountain are the same tire sold exclusively from discount tire.

Every tire is made differently. You should check with the manufacturer. Too high a pressure, the center will bulge, causing the tire to wear faster in the center. Too little, the MPG's will suffer. And the shoulders will be wear faster. It depends on the thickness of the sidewalls and the tread, how many and what kind of plys are in the tire (some have Kevlar or other materials), how many belts are in the tire. There is no one size fits all for tire pressure. I had a set of goodyears that needed 50 unloaded and 80 max for heavy loads (like a heavy 5th wheel camper).

I was always told that what the tire pressure in the door says is what the tires should be inflated to for that specific truck based on its weight and other factors. The max pressure on the actual tire is the most you could run that tire at. For example if you had a big diesel and in the door it said 50 psi then you would run a tire that has a max tire pressure of at least 50 psi but if the tire says max 80 psi that doesn't mean you run those tires at 80, you still fill them to the 50 psi that was specified for that vehicle in the door.
