6k in plug and play is ok. But 6k on projectors seems really blue. I'll be hitting up the 5k when I do mine

I guess I will either be saving yo have someone do it, or just settle for a different retrofit

If you want 10k head to eBay.
To my understanding projectors are used so that they focus the light, rather than like the reflectors on our trucks that would scatter the light. So why would installing 8 or 10k in a projector "defeat the purpose"? I want to upgrade to HID but I dont want to blind oncoming traffic.

And I understand how some of you live out in the rural part of America - and need the best light possible, but I live in the city and rarely travel outside of it. So having supreme light output isn't my biggest concern.

As I said earlier, the closer you get towards 12k, the more visibility you lose while driving. Most people who chose to take that route are going for a specific look and not visibility. For example, the people with purple and pink lights.

Here is a picture from DDM tuning explaining what I mean.

Yeah I understand all that - and im not really worried about pure visibility as I am with not wanting to blind other drivers. That's why I didn't understand why allion said that it is pointless to put anything above 6k in projectors...

I think he just doesn't like the blue look and may think it is ricey and would rather have the visibility over look. But to each his own my friend.

Not at all, just trying to help people make informed decisions. I've tried it all: silverstars, PnP HID, retrofit, etc...have you?

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it, right? It goes far beyond a styling upgrade. I thought PnP HIDs were cool in the past too, but once you drive behind a set of quality projectors and realize the insane performance difference while not glaring into oncoming traffic, you'll never go back. THAT is the point I try to get across.

You think you get compliments now, try a retrofit...when you have better lighting than OEM Mercedes, Lexus, etc on your F150...people are wow'd big time.

And guys if you want blue, 6k in projectors actually looks quite blue since the cutoff shield and clear lens emit great color flicker. With the 6k it appears nearly purplish from a distance, but still provides decent visibility.

EDIT: Here you go, 6k in a FXR projector on a F150:

I really want to do my retrofit, but I don't have the time at the moment =/ I love my lights now, but a proper retrofit like you said has 10x better performance.

Did you retrofit your fogs?
