I have a 2007 F150 with a Leer cap, on the4 dash I have a Garmin GPS.I bought a Garmin wireless backup camera that is usually placed on the license plate, connected to revers light power at the rear bulb, then send data to the GPD unit up front. I have a few questions for anyone using the same setup.
1) Where would I put the transmitter box so it send unobstructed signal?
2) Does anyone use one of the tailgate handle cameras or the Ford emblem Cameras? Wonder if the camera with the Garmin would fit? Hate to buy something not compatible .

No such thing as unobstructed. You're in a big metal insulated box, wireless signals are going to be obstructed, you can only hope for the best. At that point, given it's going from rear to front, just put it where it will be the least vulnerable, there's no perfect placement. Wireless is a, and I'm not judging you here, lazy way to do a camera install on a long vehicle.
I use a tailgate camera. The camera is 1/3" lens size. I just bought mine in a kit instead of sourcing the tailgate and then the camera, but there's loads that would fit. You just need to decide if your camera is also properly sized to it.
I know unobstructed is next to impossible. should have said least obstructed! Off I go with wire4 camera I would need another viewer, maybe it comes in a package. Thanks for input.

No worries man. We all have our choices to make, and it's totally fine to do it wireless, I was just throwing it out there in the off chance to convince you otherwise.
In other news, for my rear facing lighting, I placed the relay in the tube for the hitch, where it was least likely to see water intrusion and debris. That will likely not work too well for you, though, given that it's just yet more metal. That's why I suggested you just try to find an area that will see the least amount of road crap for it.
Still not sure what I'll do. Thinking that if I can get a tailgate handle assembly our emblem assembly with hole for a camera, I could mount it basically all in the inside of the tailgate, out of dirt and a cleared path to the GPS unit up front. (Using a wifi unit, no wires between the sender and GPS unit for those n reading this before.)
If I can find a camera system with a dedicated viewing screen I may go that path; thinking of having it on all the time, watch behind me as well as what I may be towing.
I went with the wireless camera for a couple months but the signal was intermittent also. Eventually I broke down and found a cheap OEM handle cam and wired it up to my head unit.
If you go this route, keep in mind that f250 tailgate handles were the same as 150 handles, and seem to be cheaper online. I purchased an f250 handle with cam off of ebay for 50.00, and modified the wiring myself.

I started with a wireless set up, I mounted the Transmitter in the tailgate itself. It was a little troublesome in that buildings with CCTV would make the camera (Wireless Transmitter \ receiver) not work. So I went back to the wire. I use the tailgate handle mount.
I found a cheaper tailgate handle to try, thinking I may have to fabricate a plastic/metal piece to place horizontally to hold the transmitter-- between the outer and inner shell of the tailgate. That is if the camera I have fits into the hole of the handle without a lot of headache.

Mine did not fit in the cheaper Amazon tailgate handle. But, I was able to use a section of 1/2 grey sprinkler pipe (A Threaded Nipple) , shaved down a bit on the inside to make it work. The handle is flimsy. Spending a little extra would more than likely pay off. I mounted my Transmitter to velcro in the tailgate.
Greetings, I installed the tailgate handle and installed a wired camera.
This picture above is original before I did anything.
This is with the new camera installed into the new handle.
This is what they both look like side by side. As you can see I hot glued the camera in.

This was a quick easy install. I wish I had done it years ago. Got both from ebay pretty cheap. You do have a good bit of room behind the handle, so there is no worries about having the room.
