Default tail gate theft

Has anyone else had their tailgate stolen? it was locked with the ignition key, but that didn't stop them parked in my drive way with a street light next to it. Anyone else have this problem?

no but if they are smart they can make a new key from that lock...and steal your truck with out breaking glass or damaging the truck further

Sorry to hear what happened to you. Even in here it can't happen (i hope) - all they can do is to steal wheels or stereo system. I think Blackbetty is right - you should replace all locks ASAP, and may be think about a simple car alarm system. One wouldn't steal a tailgate just because it's a good looking one.

The newer tailgates bend easier than the older ones, so ppl bend them then steal a good one.

Never had it happen to me, personally. But, when I lived in Texas, two friends of mine, with Silverado's got them swiped. Chevy and Dodge do not have the locks on their tailgates as standard equipment. Thank god Ford does!

Obviously, this didn't help in your situation! Sorry to hear about it.

I remember someone posting a link to special retainers that go on your tailgate with locking screws or something similar the go on your tailgate which makes it imposable to steel a VERY long time ago.

try searching for them.

I believe it was a thread about tailgate steps, and someone posted a link to that product from a company that made a step or something.

I hope that vague post helps you a bit, lol.

I always hear bout tailgates gettin stolen here in South Texas, thats why I wasn't to mad when I put a few deep small scratches in mine cause I figured if anything it would deter people from takin it lol but ya definiteley sorry to hear that, I would invest in a cheap alarm w/ a starter killswitch.
